Earn CMEs at a regular Florida Board of Medicine meeting

The Board meets bimonthly, generally on the first weekend of the month. The full Board meetings include disciplinary cases, licensure approvals, correspondence items, committee reports, policy discussion items and other necessary Board actions. All board and committee meetings start at 8:00 am. Dates and locations are subject to change.

Physician Wellness

Stop telling physicians to be more resilient.

"I’ve come across several articles recently highlighting the Dr. Lorna Breen Healthcare Provider Protection Act. The primary stated intent of this is 'to improve mental health among health care workers.' It is named in honor of an emergency physician who died by suicide during the height of the COVID pandemic.

"Although my very first thought was, 'oh, thank God … they are finally listening,' that was quickly replaced with a sick feeling in my gut. Why? Because I realized that, like almost every other 'resource' available to promote mental well-being in health care workers, the word resilience would inevitably show up. I looked at the official wording of the law and yep, it’s there. 'Identify strategies to promote resiliency.' Sucker punch to the gut." Read the article by Lauren Roth, MD.

The HCMA Foundation Physician Wellness Program provides a safe harbor for members to address life difficulties, especially during this time of uncertainty, challenges, and increased stress due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19. Personal News

On Thursday, June 9, the HCMA hosted a Residents Reception together with Physicians Wealth Planning at Brio Italian Grille. We celebrated all HCA and USF resident physicians, interns, and fellows and their accomplishments so far. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to a few resident physicians who will pursue their careers outside of Florida. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. To all current residents, we wish you a successful start to your next year of residency!  See all the photos on HCMA's Facebook page!

The HCMA's 3rd Post-Session Legislative Reception, led by Dr. Eva Crooke (HCMA President) and Dr. Michael Cromer (Chm, HCMA Government Affairs Committee) was held on June 22nd. This forum provides an excellent opportunity to converse with our legislators and their staff in an informal setting.

Attendees recapped medicine's priority issues of the 2022 Florida Legislative Session and discussed potential bill topics for the 2023 Session.

Dr. Cromer addressed the group reviewing the wins and losses from the 2022 Legislative Session.

Elke Lubin (HCMA Executive Assistant), Dr. Georgetta Bundley, Debbie Zorian (HCMA Executive Director), and Skoervitch Emile (Legislative Assistant for Rep. Fentrice Driskell).

I'd like more information about the HCMA Government Affairs Committee Congratulations to Drs. & Mrs. Jayant Rao - finally!

Dr. Jayant Rao, HCMA Past President, and the former Sheila Bongcayao, were married last month in Tahoe. The wedding was originally scheduled for September 2021 but had to be delayed due to massive fire evacuations and the COVID Delta Variant spike.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy life together!
